Direct Mail Company Facility We are moving our operations into a great facility at 640 Maestro Dr #100, in beautiful Reno Nevada.

As a company that designs, prints and mails direct mail marketing for customers all over the country, we have many options as to where we operate.  We choose Reno, Nevada based on its location for distribution as well as its location for living.

Why Reno?

IDEAL FOR DISTRIBUTION: Reno-Sparks is on Interstate-80; just east of the San Francisco ship yards, in tax-friendly Nevada. Companies from all over the world use Reno as a major distribution point for the rest of the country.  Companies with major operations/distribution in our area include Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Microsoft, Intuit Software, JC Penny, RR Donnelly, Tesla, Apple and many more.

Reno is an ideal location for fast distribution across the country for our customers. We have tracked 2-3 day delivery to Texas and Colorado with standard mail.

Living alongside Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevadas, Reno is “The Biggest Little City”. People are drawn to this region for a better life and a place to flourish in a balance of work and play.

Where else can you work until 5 o’clock and by 6 o’clock be skiing, hiking, boating, riding, snowmobiling or rafting in beautiful mountains and forests?  Reno-Tahoe is an exceptionally rewarding place to live and work!

CSG Direct Receives Official Woman Owned Small Business Certification

RENO, NEV. (October, 2012) — CSG Direct, Inc. celebrates the Small Business Association’s Woman Owned Small Business Month by becoming a Woman Owned Small Business.  CSG Direct Inc. was certified by the association and will be passing the benefits on to partners and customers.

By receiving the certification, CSG can now use this status when bidding on direct mail and print projects where set asides have been established, especially those offered by prime contractors and government agencies. As a result, CSG has been able to lower internal costs, which has allowed for better efficiencies and therefore better prices for current and future customers.

CEO Lorrie Hemphill is proud to accept the certification, and boasts her pride of being a female business owner, particularly in her industry.

“I’m proud of the direction that I have taken the company since becoming CEO,” said Hemphill. “I’m a woman in a male dominated industry, and the culture we are building at CSG is to deliver a quality product with superior service at a low cost.”

Hemphill looks forward to the opportunities this certification will present and the future of CSG as a female owned and recognized company.

Paul Erickson joins CSG Direct Mail

When I look back through my career it is divided into “Phases”. Those phases are always centered around our largest milestones and the progress that follows. I know 2012 is one of those milestones and 2012 is the beginning of “The Era of Paul“.

We are very excited to share with you that Paul Erickson has joined our team (your team) as General Manager of our CSG Direct digital-printing plant in Reno, Nevada.  Paul brings with him over 34 years of print plant management, team development and print manufacturing experience.

Paul is a Six Sigma Champion and is experienced in Business Management Strategy.

For anyone in our region that is aware, Paul is known for his tenure at RR Donnelley where for 9 years he was the Vice President of Manufacturing at the Reno plant.  However, Paul has many other accomplishments that demonstrate his deep level of experience.

Paul began his career after he earned his BS in Printing Management from South Dakota State University.  More recently Paul was the managing director of Polestar Sheffield, the largest gravure printing facility in the U.K with a very demanding customer base and a high level of customer satisfaction.

Paul came back to the US to run the very prestigious US Government Printing Office for 3 years as the Deputy Public Printer and Chief Operating Officer.  In this very demanding position Paul still adopted and implemented the ISO 9001 standard for quality assurance and management in GPOs production facilities and led the effort to adopt 5S, a world recognized continuous improvement process in both manufacturing and office environments.

I cannot say enough about how excited we are to have Paul leading our team.

Paul recently shared his insight with us “The future of Printing is digital and CSG Direct has positioned itself well in this market segment. The CSG niche is strong and our unique services offer us unlimited growth and opportunity.”

We’ll if anyone should know… it’s Paul.

Welcome aboard Paul!
We look forward to the new era.

9 Digital Presses and Personalized Digital Books

Well the final 3 new digital presses are almost completely installed.  Special thanks goes out to our electrical teams and contractors for the building modifications and the massive grid of wires, power and network cabling. digital printing

We have been waiting with Christmas Eve enthusiasm to print our first booklets on these new digital presses. The idea of printing multiple paged booklets that gather pages, fold and stitch together and finally do the 3 sided trim is an incredible dream come true for us.

Before this investment we had to print separate pages and then offline stitch and trim.  That was not a great way to do personalized mail by a long shot.  Too many pieces got destroyed in the process and the offline process increased costs and timelines.

Once our facility is cleaned up from the construction we look forward to giving some fresh tours.  We have a few surprises in store for our favorite clients.  We are going to pee ourselves if we have to wait too long to share those surprises.

Why We Love Variable Data Printing #1!

We have been in the variable data printing (VDP) business for nearly fifteen years. Nothing gives the team at CSG Direct Mail more of a rush than taking a job and applying the advanced concepts of conditional programming and intensive personalization to create a highly-targeted VDP campaign that brings excellent responses. We thrive on complex VDP projects that take all the elements of a customer’s project and weaving them into a grand, personalized tapestry.

Many Direct Mail companies brag that they do VDP, but do they really understand the height and depth that really constitutes VDP? Do they understand that personalization is more than just putting “Dear First Name” in a letter? Can they take multiple tiers, hundreds of graphics, text elements and styling, and intensive data to create a campaign that can be run as one version to maximize postal savings and project timeliness? This is where the rubber hits the road!

VDP is a wonderful ballet of data and graphics woven together with conditional programming to create a custom-tailored personalized message that is unique and desirable to catch the attention of your customer. The more targeted your data and graphic assets are constructed, the more likely of a positive response. In addition, one is almost unlimited in what can be created in a VDP project. The only limitations are the complexity of the data, design assets and one’s imagination!

It’s just not enough to have a person who “crunches” your data and prepares it for postal output. They must understand how to code a database to work in conjunction with graphic assets to make a VDP project sing. One can have the most talented graphic designer on their team, but if the designer doesn’t have a basic understanding how a database can be used to power all their designs with conditional programming, then the project is reduced to creating many separate outputs according to level/tier. A huge waste of time and money! For a successful VDP project, both data and design must work in tandem and understand each other’s skill sets to make the final product shine!

This is when we shine at CSG Direct Mail. Data, Design and Print personnel working in tandem to produce some crazy and wonderful VDP! Multi levels, multi Property, graphics switching out on the fly, fonts changing size, face and color, with conditional programming humming in the background while the data conducts the process like a maestro! It’s magic!

Next…VDP in action!
